The resale-app Depop is working together with the Black In Fashion Council for this year’s Black History Month. On the 16th of February, the series “In Conversation with…” launches on YouTube. Black professionals from BIFC will discuss themes such as creativity, influencer marketing, retail, and finance. Santorin Charles, Co-Founder of BIFC, says: “This is a fun way to leverage board members and business friends. You can look at the names that work behind the scenes of change.” Click here to subscribe to Depop’s YouTube Channel and get notified for the first episode.

A gentle recommendation for the ones who strive to dig deeper: On February 25th, the book “Fashion Criticism. An Anthology” will be released, edited by Francesca Granata. The scholar of fashion studies already wrote a book on Experimental Fashion, where she, amongst others, explored the work of our favorite fashion designer Martin Margiela. In her most recent publication, Granata explores the understudied research field of fashion criticism. The book examines its gender dynamics and historical associations, beginning with an Oscar Wilde and covering its history until today. We are excited!

Ann Demeulemeester wins the Henry van de Velds Golden Award 2021 for Lifetime Achievements. The prize has been distributed since 1994 to honor innovative design amongst 17 categories, ranging from the Climate Challenge Award to the Digital Product Award. Henry Clement van de Velde was a flemish-belgian designer and architect. Although Ann Demeulemeester left her eponymous label in 2013 and is now designing porcelain dinner services, glasses, and silverware, we take this award as an occasion to dive into her fashion designs again. Maybe start with the documentary Anti Fashion 90s, which is available on YouTube, if you haven’t seen it yet?

GUCCI LOVE LOVE & LOVE. Right in time for Valentine’s Day, Gucci teamed up with photographer Brad Elterman to cheer us up with a zine, full of pictures shot in sunny Los Angeles.

Long pleated, stiff-looking skirts worn over pants, rollnecks covering our mouths just as we are used to these days, silk shawls draped around the neck substituting a tie, a top worn over a button-up shirt, belts over blazers, worn by men and women. “Within the collection itself, I wanted to capture what it is to be human at this very moment. Conundrum is OK, glitches are OK, duality is OK, and a dissolution of norms is OK,” Virgil Abloh says. Is there something you did not like about the Off White SS21 presentation?
